Café Church – Spreading the Word

At Café Church  today Martyn Johnson asked us to think about and discuss evangelism.  We were buzzing with ideas which we wanted to share with you:

“For God love the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life” John 3:16 NLT

How do we tell this message to our community and family and in the workplace?

  • Positive body language and enthusiasm
  • By setting an example
  • Be yourself, be genuine
  • Look at the example set by children (Their simple understanding of the Gospel message can often be an inspiration of others.)
  • The work and works that we do
  • Social gatherings
  • Sharing testimonies
  • Getting to know people
  • Youth and children’s work
  • Planting a seed and nurturing it
  • Encourage others in their faith
  • Be sensitive to others, understand when a subtler approach is better than preaching. Treat people as individuals (not targets for conversion)
  • Wearing a visible symbol of our faith such as a cross
  • Live generously and show your vulnerability
  • Look out for neighbours and be ready to help them
  • Pray for others and ourselves and tell people we are praying for them

How do we tell this message to our city and county?

  • Posters, flyers, website, blogs, advertising and using the media available to us to let people know about events and how they can get involved.
  • Fundraising for good causes
  • Investigating who we are serving and listening to their needs
  • Volunteering for organisations
  • Speaking out and campaigning on local and regional issues,  involvement in local politics
  • Running Charities and organisations such as Durham Christian Partnership/ Foodbank
  • Displaying and wearing religious symbols.
  • Prayer

How do we tell this message to our world?

  • Charity
  • Encouraging Fairtrade and ethical practices.
  • Campaigning for social justice
  • Spreading the message of caring for the environment – looking after the world that God created
  • Prayer

We also listened to Dave Knapton’s interesting talk about the relationship between Engineering and Christianity – (No really it was interesting and not just that it was sometimes funny too!) – this was his testimonial about how he came to be a Christian and how he tries to live out the Gospel message in his workplace.

Cafe Church is on the 1st Sunday of every month at 10.45am  – a relaxed informal service with refreshments.
