Farewell to Robert Lawrance

On Sunday a  farewell service was held in St Cuthbert’s Church for our Team Rector Robert Lawrance and his family who will be moving to St Francis Church in Newcastle.  He will be greatly missed by members of All Saints.  I’m sure our unique way of ‘doing church’ has given Robert extra headaches at times but we have benefitted so much from his presence, as he has led, preached, given counsel and worshipped with us.  We wish the Lawrance family every blessing in this new chapter of their lives.  Caroline Dick will be Acting Team Rector and we look forward to working with her.

Welcome to the Muneza Family

IMG_1661.jpgA warm welcome to Steve Muneza who has now been licensed by Bishop Paul to be a minister in Durham North Team. We have already had the pleasure of welcoming his family in to our church family over the past few weeks.  Steve has come from Burundi to study here and the family are living in the vicarage. His duties will be mainly at All Saints. He is a deacon and will be made priest in Durham during this academic year by the Bishop of Bujumbura.

More Energy Saving Measures at All Saints

We have now completed the next stage of our energy saving measures with the installation of new high level windows to the church and back rooms and the new fire exit door to the church. This has been due in no small part to the very generous grant from our local councillors, Amanda Hopgood, Mamie Simmons and Mark Wilkes, to whom we are extremely grateful. The installation was carried out by a local company, QVS. The fire exit door will be of particular use to the adjacent care home as it has a low thresh which means access by wheelchairs will be much easier.
Part of the grant we received is being used to upgrade our cooking facilities and to this end a new cooker and hot cupboard have been ordered. These hopefully will be installed within the next few weeks, and in time for the annual Christmas lunch.
In addition All Saints will be the place to be in December as we will be putting up the Christmas tree for the estate, again thanks to the local councillors.
